This morning I was hesitant as I boarded the bus to work. I was the only one getting on the bus and it was empty. Eulinda, the coach driver, greeted me with a big smile and reassured me that I was on the right bus. There was a second bus ten minutes behind her which she said was scheduled to arrive earlier because it took a different route.
Notice the events and the probabilities in this story. There is a 99% chance that I’m going to ride the bus to work, but a lesser percent chance that I’m going to take a particular bus. In this case, had I been talking to someone in line, they may have convinced me to skip this bus and wait for the next one which was an express. Going with the “lower probability” bus resulted in a great conversation – I’ll likely take that same bus again 🙂
